Hickory Harvest Foods recalls Amish Farms Brand Sunflower Kernels over Listeria concerns

As part of the ongoing recall of sunflower kernel products supplied by SunOpta Inc. that have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, Hickory Harvest Foods is voluntarily recalling a single lot of Amish Farms 5.5 oz. Sunflower Kernels.

The product being recalled may contain sunflower kernels recalled by SunOpta. Hickory Harvest Foods produced the product being recalled for Amish Farms and SunOpta, Inc. supplied the kernels. Amish Farms is providing this information to its customers in an effort to alert consumers who may have purchased this single lot of the Amish Farms Sunflower Kernels.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

NO ILLNESSES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS RECALL HAVE BEEN REPORTED.

The product being recalled is marked with a Best If Purchased By Date of 02/25/17 and is packaged in printed clear plastic bags containing 5.5 oz. of product.

ONLY THIS SINGLE LOT WITH THIS BEST IF PURCHASED BY DATE IS BEING RECALLED.
NO OTHER AMISH FARMS PRODUCTS ARE BEING RECALLED.

Consumers are urged NOT to eat this product. Consumers who purchased this product may return it to the store where it was purchased for a full refund or exchange, or they may simply discard the product.
