The company had opened the site in Hatfield Business Park last November. The new employment will brings the total staff to 170 at the location. This facility currently has a workforce of 70.

Greencore also intends to employ 150 more people at its other distribution facilities in early 2016. The company's northern distribution hub in Manton Wood, Nottinghamshire, is likely to recruit the new staff.

The sandwich making company opines that the expansion of its distribution facilities will facilitate in handling increased volumes, reported Just-food.com.

Greencore Food to Go managing director for operations Steve Evans was quoted by Just-food.com as saying that the expansion of workforce will enable it to handle higher volumes.

"This new facility [in Hatfield], together with the additional customer volume provides an excellent strategic platform for our future growth."

In November last year, the convenience food maker announced plans to develop a new production facility in the US state of Washington. The proposed plant would see an investment of around £20m and will be an addition to factories being constructed in Jacksonville and Rhode Island in the US and Northampton in the UK.

Earlier in 2014, the company also aimed to strengthen its position in the US by setting up a new sandwich manufacturing facility in Rhode Island, with an investment of around £20m. The 100,000ft² facility is intended to enable Greencore USA to extend its reach to New York, while catering to the existing markets in New England.
